19 Sep Our Teeth are ALIVE
Yes, you read that right – our teeth are alive! They contain nerves and blood vessels, called pulps, which provide them with sensation, keep them healthy, and even give them their natural color.
But here’s the catch: when bacteria sneak into the pulp, it can cause serious pain. If left untreated, the pulp can become devitalized – or, in other words, it dies.
This is where things get tricky. Once the pulp loses its vitality, the tooth becomes vulnerable to infection. The bacteria can spread from the tooth into the surrounding bone and tissues, leading to facial swelling, or even worse, infections in the sinuses.
How Does Bacteria Reach the Pulp?
Bacteria can find their way into your tooth through decay (cavities), cracks, or even gum disease. But don’t worry – that’s where we come in! At Martin St Dentists, our job is to help you spot and stop bacterial invasion before it harms your pulps.
Whether it’s a thorough cleaning, taking X-rays to check for decay, or treating weak teeth with fillings or crowns, we’re always working to protect your pulps. We aim to avoid more invasive treatments like root canals or extractions whenever possible.
Because, after all, healthy pulps mean pain-free, healthy bodies!
